Hawaiian ex-pat Mark Hayashida, previously sous-chef at Blowfish & School, brings his pop-up sushi kitchen to the space on Tuesday nights, offering low prices on freshly made rolls and sashimi with a Hawaiian twist. A live band leads a raucous Monday night karaoke dedicated solely to the Beatles songbook. Sundays remain dedicated to live jazz, and Opera on Tap, a now-nationwide organization bridging opera into the bar setting, has made the Royale its residence one Saturday evening each month.
An ever-rotating beer selection exhibits some of the lesser-known breweries around the golden state and beyond, with the staff more than happy to share their knowledge on the product.
